The Engineering & Development Coach is a dual-role position responsible for performing Project Engineer (PE) and/or Assistant Project Manager (APM) duties (as needed) while simultaneously mentoring, training, and developing Project Engineers and Assistant Project Managers to help refine their understanding, timely execution, and correctness of company processes. Essential Functions Mentor, train, and develop Project Engineers and Assistant Project Managers in technical, managerial, and operational competencies Conduct workshops, on-the-job training sessions, and knowledge-sharing meetings to strengthen team capabilities Provide comprehensive training and guidance on construction project processes, including reading and reviewing construction documents, managing submittals, tracking procurement, handling RFIs, understanding assemblies and material specifications, verifying materials, coordinating record documents, and preparing accurate meeting minutes, as well as company policies, procedures, and standards Coach team members on schedule interpretation to ensure timely material deliveries, as well as pricing and reviewing project scope changes for accuracy and alignment with project requirements Assess skill gaps, create next steps for growth opportunities, and provide clear growth goals Foster a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and accountability Maintain & execute scheduling for individuals and group training sessions Support project team by performing PE or APM duties on multiple projects, as needed Assist in project planning, coordination, and monitoring to ensure projects meet scope, schedule, quality, and budget targets Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including Project Management, Quality, Operations, Estimating, etc.) to resolve technical and operational challenges Support documentation, reporting, and compliance activities related to project delivery Collaborate with senior management to identify organizational development opportunities and improve training Ability to travel as needed and remain eligible to operate a company vehicle or a personal vehicle for company purposes per Fleet Safety Management policy Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred 10 years of experience in commercial construction project management or engineering roles Proven experience mentoring or coaching engineering/project management staff Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods, applicable building and industry codes, construction processes, quality control, etc.) Basic knowledge of construction contract law required Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to dynamic project environments Professional certifications such as PMP, PE, or equivalent are highly desirable Must have working knowledge of Primavera/Sure Trak scheduling, Timberline Estimating/ Accounting, Procore and Microsoft Office Suite Competencies Leadership & Mentorship Project Management & Coordination Problem Solving & Decision Making Communication & Interpersonal Skills Organizational Skills & Time Management Technical Expertise in Construction Engineering Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment The Engineering and Development Coach will operate in a dynamic work environment that combines office-based planning and field-based project oversight. The role requires frequent interaction with project teams, contractors, clients, and senior management, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing. While primarily focused on coaching and professional development, the position also involves hands-on involvement in multiple construction projects, requiring adaptability to changing project demands and schedules. Regular site visits will expose the incumbent to typical construction conditions, including dust, fumes, odors, dampness, high noise levels, varying outdoor weather conditions, and adherence to safety protocols. This role requires regular use of standard office equipment such as computers, printers, phones, and project management software. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The role of Engineering and Development Coach requires a moderate level of physical activity. Frequent site visits involve walking on uneven terrain, climbing ladders or scaffolding, and navigating active construction zones. The position may require standing or sitting for extended periods, lifting and carrying materials or equipment up to 25 pounds, and performing inspections in varying weather conditions. While much of the coaching and project planning work is conducted in an office setting, the ability to move safely and efficiently on construction sites is essential to effectively support project teams and fulfill dual responsibilities. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time non-union position. The scheduled hours are typically 40 to 50 hours per week, Monday through Friday, but may be extended as required to execute the tasks assigned. Travel This position may require frequent travel. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred, and at least ten years of commercial construction experience in project management or project engineering. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Must pass a pre-employment screen, including but not limited to a drug and alcohol screen, background check, motor vehicle records check, reference check and physical (if applicable). Current and valid driver’s license in the state of permanent residence (must be insurable by Jaynes automobile insurance carrier in order to drive a Jaynes vehicle). Must be eligible per Fleet Safety Management policy to operate a company vehicle or a personal vehicle for company purposes.
