-One (1) Registered Nurses (RN) -in the Labor & Deliver and/or
Post-Partum/Newborn Couplet Care and/or Newborn Special Care at
Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC) located in Shiprock, NM.
-Period of Performance: Date of Award through 6 months. The
assignment are through the stated period of performance or until
the position is filled with a permanent hire. In such instances,
the provider will be released from the contract. -WORK SHIFT:The
shifts are 12 hour rotational (day or night) including weekends and
Government Holidays. -Housing: No Government Housing available. The
nearby towns are Farmington, NM , 29 miles East of Shiprock, NM and
in Cortez, CO, 41 miles North of Shiprock, NM. There are hotels,
restaurants, mall, etc. in the two towns. -Facility Location:
Northern Navajo Medical Center is located in the beautiful
high-desert climate of the Four Corners area - where the four
states of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah adjoin. Northern
Navajo Medical Center provides: care services including family
medicine, internal medicine, mental health, physical therapy,
optometry, dental, social services, pharmacy, x-ray, laboratory,
public health nursing, diabetes education, health promotion/disease
prevention and outpatient rehabilitation services along with
benefits coordination. -Recreation opportunities exist such as
camping, fishing, hiking, biking, backpacking, snowshoeing,
snowboarding, cross country skiing, and alpine skiing. Telluride,
Durango, Moab, Canyonlands, Grand Gulch, the Colorado River, the
San Juan River, several large lakes, and Colorado Wilderness areas
are just short drives away. -INITIAL APPOINTMENTS
REQUIREMENTS:Education: Degree or diploma from a professional
nursing program approved by the legally designated State
accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the
applicant. -Registered Nurse Qualification RequirementsSubfactor: a
valid and unrestricted State Nursing LicenseSubfactor: a current
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification with American Heart
AssociationSubfactor: a current Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Certification with American Heart AssociationSubfactor: Pediatric
Advance Life Support (PALS) Certification with American Heart
AssociationSubfactor: a current Neonatal Resuscitation Program
(NRP) Certification with American Heart AssociationSubfactor:
AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitor CertificationSubfactor: STABLE
(Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Labs, and Emotional
Support)Subfactor: Health Requirements (Medical Evaluation /
Immunization) -Professional Nursing Skills:Subfactor: Anatomy &
Physiology of all age groups: neonates to geriatricsSubfactor:
Ability & knowledge to learn the different types of equipment.-
Cardiac monitors- Alaris IVAC pumps/PCA- SCDs (Sequential
Compression Devices)- Natus bili light/blanket- Medula electronic
breast pump- HillRom beds/cribs- Panda Warmers- Training with Fetal
Monitoring Equipment -Subfactor: Proficient in IV cannulation of
all age groupsSubfactor: Assess all ages and communicates abnormal
signs and symptoms to Providers appropriatelySubfactor: Ability to
work with Electronic Health Record & Barcode Medication
Administration ScannersSubfactor: May be assigned Charge Nurse
DutiesSubfactor: Ability to float as needed to other departments
upon completion of a Float Competency Skills Checklist. This is
merely a preference and not mandatory for this position.
-Experience: The RN needs to have at least 2 years of clinical
experience in Labor & Deliver and/or Post-Partum/Newborn Couplet
Care, including the following: -High Risk Patient Care:- MgSo4
Infusion- Pitocin Infusion- Preterm Labor Patients- PIH Patients-
GDM Patients- Patient with no Prenatal Care- Knowledge of AWHONN
guidelines -Postpartum/Antepartum Care- GDM Teaching- Postpartum
Recovery- Mother/Baby Care & Teaching- Knowledge of Baby Friendly
-Experience: The RN needs to have at least 2 years of clinical
experience in Newborn Special Care, including the following:
-Newborn Nursery:- Level 2 Care which includes stabilizing Level 3
Newborn for transportation- O2 Therapy- IV Fluid, IV Start, Blood
Draw- Cardiac Monitoring- Transitional Care- Newborn Assessments-
Mother/Baby Care & teaching- Knowledge of Baby-Friendly -**Note:
Northern Navajo Medical Center is a Baby-Friendly Designated
Hospital -Licensure: Must possess and maintain current State
licensure while employed with Indian Health Service (IHS).syn1
