Job Description:
Position Summary: The Physical Therapist Assistant is
responsible for providing physical therapy treatment under the
supervision of a qualified physical therapist in accordance with
the plan of care. Essential Duties:
- Perform all physical therapy procedures, planned and delegated
as prescribed by the physician in the clients place of residence
when instructed and supervised by a qualified Physical
Therapist
- Administer non-complex therapeutic exercises, therapeutic
massage, traction, heat, light, cold, water and electrical
modalities to clients with relatively stable conditions
- Instruct, motivate and assist clients in learning and improving
functional activities
- Observe clients progress and response to treatment and report
finding to the physical therapist
- Assist in preparing clinical notes and progress reports
documenting physical therapy treatments performed and submit them
for review to the supervising Physical Therapist for incorporation
into the clinical record
- Report any changes in the clients condition to the qualified
supervising Physical Therapist and Director of Nursing. Changes in
the plan of care may be made following authorization, instruction
and supervision by the Physical Therapist
- Participate in case conference, staff meeting and in-service
education programs
- Participate in educating the client/caregiver
- Communicate effectively with all members of the
interdisciplinary team
- Participate in the educational program of the new staff and
students in the area of practice
- Maintains accurate clinical records, keeping track of goals and
progress of clients'
- Abides by all regulations, policies, procedures and
standards
- Teaches clients' how to properly use exercise techniques
- Perform other duties as assigned PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains positive internal and external customer service
relationships
- Maintains open lines of communication
- Plans and organizes work effectively and ensures its
completion
- Meets all productivity requirements
- Demonstrates team behavior and promotes a team-oriented
environment
- Actively participates in Continuous Quality Improvement,
educational programs, and staff meetings
- Represents the organization professionally at all times
Position Requirements & Competencies:
- Graduate of a two year level program approved by the American
Physical Therapy Association
- Current licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the
state of practice
- At least one (1) years' experience as a Physical Therapy
Assistant
- Must possess current CPR and First Aid Certification
- Ability to make home visits and provide nursing care in the
home environment
- Possess knowledge of principles and practices of physical
therapy
- Ability to complete necessary documentation appropriately,
legibly and timely
- Interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
necessary to complete job responsibilities
- Must have reliable transportation, current driver's license and
appropriate automobile insurance; or ability to take public
