This is an Assistant Supervisory Clinical Nurse in the Ambulatory Care Dept; Division of Nursing Services at the Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC) in Shiprock, NM. The position provides a wide variety of nursing care services in outpatient and/or inpatient care. The position reports to the Dept Supervisory Nurse. Responsibilities Responsible for providing direction, leadership, guidance, professionalism, supervision, and evaluation to the nursing staff. Responsible for the provision of nursing care on the unit including compliance with standards of care, patient safety, and compliance with other applicable standards. Responsible for planning work for completion of work schedules, adjusting work schedule as needed to meet the staffing and patient care needs. Provides adequate nursing coverage for safe and effective patient care. Evaluates daily operations and services provide to assure efficient use of resources. Assesses the patient flow, the work flow, productivity and takes appropriate corrective action for evaluation. Participates with the hospital Performance Improvement Coordinator to assure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) Standards. Responsible for Performance Improvement activities within department. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): GS-11: Candidates must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 grade level. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Applicants must have possess active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Examples of the type of experience that will be credited are: Experience in providing direction, leadership, guidance, professionalism, supervision, and evaluation to the nursing staff. Experience with the hospital Performance Improvement Coordinator to assure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) Standards. Experience in Evidence-Based Practices through maintaining knowledge of current trends and interventions of all aspects of nursing care. Experience of a wide range of nursing concepts, principles, and practices to perform highly specialized nursing assignments of advanced nature and considerable difficulty. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGERIAL ABILITIES: Candidates must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they possess, or have the potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as listed under the appropriate category below: Ability to motivate, train and work effectively with subordinates who have a variety of background and training. Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected with set limits of cost and time. Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively. Ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions related to work. Ability to understand and further manage goals as these affect day-to-day work operations. Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Additional Information Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized.
