Position Summary:
The Behavioral Health Responder 2 (BHR 2) works with an
interdisciplinary team to meet the needs of persons whose lives are
disrupted or complicated by mental illness, behavioral
disturbances, substance use issues, or the inability to function or
maintain in the community. Under the supervision of the BHR 4 or
higher, the BHR 2 provides both initial and ongoing behavioral
health response for clients at UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center
(SRMC) and in the community, collaborating with other team members
to ensure optimal, recovery-oriented care for both mental health
and substance using individuals through a variety of treatment
services, including but not limited to crisis assessment and
management, as well as daily consultation with staff, clients and
other care organizations. The BHR 2 serves as a liaison partnering
with families, community members, tribal nations, schools,
emergency services, and law enforcement providing outreach and
linking care recipients to needed resources. The BHR 2 will be
available to all SRMC services and will also partner with
first-responders to address community needs. This position is
mobile, functioning from all settings with the UNM SRMC system and
also in the field with community partners. Ensure adherence to
Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care
assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and
geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Maintain departmental policies and
procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs
* INTERVENTION - Provides de-escalation, brief interventions,
crisis stabilization, case management, and care coordination under
supervision for the SRMC campus and for community members
* CLIENT RESPONSE - Provides emergency client response under
supervision whenever necessary, on the SRMC campus and in the
community
* PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and
development through participation in educational programs, reading
current literature, attending in-services, meetings and
workshops
* MEETINGS - Attends hospital huddles and uses daily management
systems as well as community meetings for proper coordination of
care and team communication
* TEAM - Works as a team providing mobile Crisis Now response to
dispatches coming from 988 and co-response dispatches with local
law enforcement coming from 911 as needed to assist in the
evaluation and management of clients in crisis in the community;
works as a team to also provide internal crisis response at UNM
SRMC when requested
* DEVELOPMENT - Develops and maintains recovery- oriented
therapeutic relationships with individuals in crisis through
ongoing assessment and stabilization efforts
* INTERVENTIONS - Provides in-person interventions, telehealth,
phone triage, and support to clients in need of behavioral health
services under supervision
* COLLABORATE - Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to develop
person-centered, trauma informed, strengths-based safety planning
under supervision
* COMMUNICATION - Provides SRMC and community client updates to
supervisor regularly seeking feedback and direction regarding care
in one to one supervision and using all SRMC hospital approved
methods of communication. Follows direction received from
supervisor
* COLLABORATE - Collaborates with all members of the
multi-disciplinary team to coordinate care
* SUPPORT - Provides suicide and risk assessment and abatement,
intervention to include Certificate for Evaluation as needed as
part of the interdisciplinary team
* REFERRAL - Makes referral arrangements with emergency personnel
or resources to provide next step care for clients and families
* ASSESSMENT - Under supervision, assesses client's behavioral
health and substance use status and provides evidence-based
intervention strategies
* COMMUNICATION - Communicates using all hospital endorsed patient
and staff communication tools such as TigerConnect, TeleDoc, Zoom,
Teams, etc.
* DOCUMENT - Documents all patient contacts, client compliance,
coordination of care, and other information in the electronic
health record system
* COMPETENCY - Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and competency in
all communities and age specific behaviors
* REQUESTS - Ability to provide rapid communication and response to
community dispatches and internal requests
* RESOURCE - Serves as an information resource to clients, staff,
and the interdisciplinary team
* OUTREACH - Provides community outreach and education consistent
with UNM SRMCs vision and purpose; provides flexibility and
accommodation as needed
* ACCOMMODATE - Provides flexibility and accommodation as
needed
* BILLING - Ensures all documentation requirements and billing
procedures are completed and submitted in a timely manner to ensure
accurate and timely reimbursement of agency services
* COMPLIANCE - Ensures that all state, federal, Joint Commission
and other oversight regulations are strictly adhered to
* CONFIDENTIALITY - Ability to ensure the security and
confidentiality of client information and records in a manner
consistent with professional codes of ethics, and hospital policies
and procedures
* ATTENDANCE - Maintains prompt and regular attendance
* TRANSPORT - Transports and/or arranges for client transportation
as needed
* PARTICIPATION - Participates punctually in job-related training
sessions and seminars
* COLLABORATE - Collaborates with peers/staff to develop client
treatment strategies and formulate diagnoses
* RELATED DUTIES - Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as
assigned
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies,
procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient
safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through
questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental
conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue
risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety
concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in
their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or
situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

1-2 years experience in mental health, substance abuse or related
field
Beginner to intermediate experience with Microsoft Office products
including Word and Outlook
Experience in or the ability to learn how to use an Electronic
Medical Record (EMR) system, which includes appointment scheduling,
authorization, tracking, assessments, treatment plans, progress
notes, and discharge summaries

* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
* UNM Vehicle Operator's Permit w/in 60 days
Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of
force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand
requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
