Health Saviours is seeking a travel Surgical Technologist for a
travel job in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Job Description & Requirements

hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, days - Employment Type: Travel
REQUIRED: 1. BLS via required. 2. Surgical Tech experience
required. 3. Preferable for them to have C-section experience. 4.
FLOATING TO OTHER DEPARTMENTS. They do not have to be certified.
CNA is preferred but not required. NO CALL REQUIREMENTS Hospital
scrubs are provided each day of work POSITION SUMMARY: An integral
member of the obstetrical team who assists the staff in the care of
the obstetrical patient by performing delegated tasks to provide
basic nursing care to patients and support for surgeons throughout
operative procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: High
school diploma or equivalent. CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: BLS
certification required. SKILLS: Completion of competency based
skills checklist. EXPERIENCE: One year Nursing Assistant experience
preferred and/or completion of Nursing Assistant course within one
year. Two years hospital experience preferred. NATURE OF
SUPERVISION: -Responsible to: Manager, Women’s Services
ENVIRONMENT: - Bloodborne pathogen C Works irregular hours.
Multiple simultaneous activities around patient care. Exposure to
infectious diseases and x-rays. Subject to varying unpredictable
situations. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to handle
emergency/crisis situations. Prolonged, extensive or considerable
standing/walking. Has knowledge of and uses good body mechanics.
Occasionally lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients or
equipment. Hearing and visual acuity within normal limits. Manual
dexterity and fine motor coordination required. ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS: 1. Identifies safety needs of the patient in Labor and
Delivery. 2. Identifies and reports breaks in sterile technique. 3.
Introduces self and explains role as a member of the surgical team.
4. Plans patient care in Labor and Delivery with other members of
the surgical team utilizing the surgeon's preference card. 5.
Identifies immediate and long-term consequences of surgical
intervention. 6. Understands the legal ramifications of surgical
intervention. 7. Responds appropriately to emergency situations. 8.
Demonstrates integrity in technical and aseptic practice. Adheres
to established policy based on AORN Standards of Care. 9. Prepares
and knows the specific use of all equipment and supplies used for
the surgical procedure. 10. Differentiates sterilization methods
for equipment and instruments necessary for specific surgical
procedures. 11. Maintains accurate count of sponges, needles and
instruments at all times. 12. Obtains necessary equipment and
supplies according to the surgeons preference card prior to the
case starting. 13. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon in order to
expedite the procedure. 14. Identifies and is familiar with anatomy
and physiology. 15. Participates effectively in identification of
unsafe patient care practices and assumes responsibility for
intervention. 16. Obtains medications from RN as verbally ordered
by the surgeon and verifies order with physician. 17. Clarifies any
uncertainties regarding surgical plan of care. 18. Displays
dexterity in the use of surgical instruments and knowledge of the
step by step procedures in specific surgical case. 19. Demonstrates
initiative in learning new surgical procedures and equipment
relating to L&D and the surgical patient. 20. Demonstrates self
evaluation skills and takes responsibility to seek supervision and
guidance as appropriately needed. 21. Offers help and responds
willingly to requests for assistance from coworkers, nurses and
management. 22. Keeps staff and management informed of procedure
changes affecting the L&D schedule. 23. Reports pertinent
information to the appropriate person. 24. Makes frequent rounds on
patients to assure safety and comfort. 25. Anticipates work load to
assure that routines and supplies are maintained to expedite
patient care. 26. Carries out procedures according to standards.
27. Reports malfunctioning equipment and disturbing incidents that
occur in patient rooms and on the unit. 28. Charges supplies
appropriately, prevents waste of supplies. 29. Cleans specified
equipment and areas as assigned. Removes trash and used equipment.
30. Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate
record of the patient's medical treatment including temperature,
blood pressure, weight, respiration and pulse. 31. Provides
personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing,
eating, bedpans and transportation. 32. Maintains confidentiality
of patient and unit care data. 33. Participates in educational
programs and inservice meetings. 34. Orders supplies and equipment
as delegated by Nurse Manager. CUSTOMER RELATIONS: (Refer to
Customer Relations for definition.) 1. Exhibits behaviors and
actions that create a high level of patient/customer satisfaction,
positive patient/customer relations, and respect for the
patient’s/customer’s rights needs, and confidentiality. 2.

positive image. 4. Demonstrates behaviors and actions that support
the mission, goals, and operations of the hospital and which
