Summary

This is located in the Iina' Counseling Services, Mental Health Department within the Clinical Services Division, Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, NM. The outpatient Iina' Counseling services program provides services to the surrounding community. Incumbent reports to Clinical Director.

Responsibilities

Provides a full range of psychological services including evaluations, diagnosis, referral, psychotherapy, and specialized treatment modalities for mental health problems of children, adolescents, adults and families. Administers psychological tests to all patients, including intellectual/cognitive functioning tests, achievement tests, and personality projective tests, with knowledge about applying sensitivity to cultural norms, minority groups, and the Native American populations served. Provides psychotherapy services using a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches that may include, but are not restricted to individuals, groups, and families with orientations and techniques that may include psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and hypnosis. Provides consultation to other department and hospital staff about mental health related matters. Consults with schools, courts, state social services, centers for handicapped adults, and other organizations to assess problems, survey resources, and explore alternative solutions to mental health issues. Conducts case reviews regularly with other staff and outside agencies. Provides comprehensive and skilled psychological evaluations and treatment services to individuals, couples, groups, and/or families receiving services for mental illness, emotional distress, behavioral dysfunction, personality disorders, and problems secondary to organic illness. Directs the development, assessment, coordination and delivery of mental health and alcohol/substance abuse services to patients at (1) in the ER, medically admitted inpatients and on an outpatient basis; (2) at the satellite clinics on an outpatient as well as community outreach basis. Provides leadership in developing coordinated community wide services. Studies the nature of mental health and substance abuse problems specific to Native American people and evaluates the methods used in the treatment of these problems. Generates reports on mental health issues and activities as necessary for statistical, administrative or planning purposes. Trains and orientates new employees, and is available for assistance in learning the new system, computer programs, and policies and procedures. Supervises, directs, and coordinates the work unit, and provides administrative and clinical direction.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Individual Occupational Requirement

Degree: major or equivalent in psychology for all specializations except clinical psychology. This specializations has additional educational requirements, as stated below: Clinical Psychology: For positions at grades GS-11 and above, satisfactory completion of all the requirements for the doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: being responsible for overall planning, organizing, improving and implementing behavioral, health issues; providing administrative, supervision for Iina' Counseling Services staff and clinical supervision for appropriate staff to assure compliance with accrediting bodies; providing psychological care and consultation services, to patients in the area while establishing behavioral health standards of care and as a senior clinician; providing a wide range of psychological testing, evaluation and clinical services; providing leadership in the development of policies and procedures, related to outpatient psychiatric services. GS-14: 1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level; AND; satisfactory completion of Ph.D or equivalent directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. Selective Placement Factor: Prescriptive Authority - Possess an active, current, unrestricted, state license with prescriptive authority. Time In Grade

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
