Position Summary:
Assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate the Sterile
Processing Department's educational programs for HSC Operational
Components. Assist in updating the Instrument Tracking System data
and ensure that all scanning protocols are consistently followed.
Establish and maintain effective communication and collaboration
with departments and clinics utilizing Sterile Processing
Department services. Ensure adherence to Hospital and departmental
policies, procedures and guidelines. No patient care
assignment.
Detailed responsibilities:
* EDUCATION ASSESSMENT - Identify educational needs, practice gaps
and issues of staff by collecting data and related information;
analyze issues, trends, and supporting evidence to determine needs
of individuals, departments, and the organization
* EDUCATION PLAN - Identify desired outcomes; in collaboration with
others, develop instructional program(s) that prescribes education
curricula, strategies, alternatives, and resources; take into
account quality indicators and policies, procedures, guidelines;
integrate research findings into plan
* EDUCATION PLAN - Establish policies, procedures, guidelines,
standards of work, work instructions, and work practice validation
tools and assign to staff as appropriate. Support other performance
improvement projects as needed
* INSTRUCTION - Implement the educational curricula utilizing adult
learning principles to employ the most appropriate methodology(ies)
to meet goals and objectives; teach relevant content; coordinate
educational initiatives and activities; ensure safety and comfort
and promote positive learning and practice environments; integrate
ethics in all areas of practice
* PRECEPT - Act as preceptor for staff as assigned and designated
by management
* OUTCOMES - Analyze educational program evaluations; monitor and
evaluate progress toward attainment of goals; seek feedback from
participants, other educators, and administrators; revise plans
accordingly
* OUTCOMES - Organize and facilitate the competency model, to
include: standards of work, regulatory compliance, specialty
specific instrumentation, equipment, and all other areas that
directly impact the quality of sterile processing department
work
* QUALITY - Maintain and systematically enhance the quality of
instructional programs and effectiveness of educator; advocate for
protection and rights of individuals, groups, and others
* QUALITY - Coordinates quality monitoring program by facilitating
data collection and analysis. Assist manager in developing reports
and tools aimed directly at impacting the error rate and department
outcomes
* PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE - Maintain current knowledge and competency
in field of expertise and professional development practice;
enhance professional growth through participation in educational
programs, reading current literature, and attending in-services;
serve as a role model; maintain certification in specialty area;
attend meetings and represent department or hospital on committees
as assigned; provider leadership in the practice settings and the
profession
* SUPERVISION - Supervise assigned staff in the absence of the
Director
* COLLABORATION - Collaborates with individuals and groups to
facilitate practice and promote quality outcomes; serve as a
consultant and educational resource
* RESOURCE UTILIZATION - Consider factors related to safety,
effectiveness, efficiency, quantity, and cost in regard to
instructional programs and desired outcomes; demonstrate
achievement of productivity goals
* RECORDS - Maintain documentation and records of instructional
programs as required by hospital policy and regulatory agencies;
produce reports of educational programs by collecting statistical
data for administrative and quality improvement purposes
* COMMUNICATION - Establish and maintain open and effective
communication patterns with peers, colleagues, students,
administrators, and others using the chain of command
* COMMUNICATION - Facilitate effective communication within
department and articulate the status of the unit's goals and vision
within Surgical Service's business operations service model
Qualifications
Education:
Essential:
* High School or GED Equivalent
Experience:
Essential:
3 years directly related experience
Nonessential:
Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo
Credentials:
Essential:
* Sterile Processing Certification or Equivelant
Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of
force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand
requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
