Job Description Physical Therapist preferred. Dynamic
opportunity supervising occupational therapists, physical
therapists and assistants (COTA and PTA) in an inpatient acute care
setting. UNMH is New Mexico’s only Level 1 trauma center and the
state’s premier teaching hospital. Our Rehab Staff provide services
across all age groups and locations including adult and pediatric
EDs, ICUs, progressive care units and outpatient specialty clinics.

Rehabilitation Services FTE: 1.00 Full Time Shift: Rotating
Position Summary: Coordinate and supervise physical or occupational
therapy services for either inpatients or outpatients. Organize,
develop, and implement physical/occupational therapy treatments and
evaluations. Coordinate in-service education for assigned service
area. Serve as a clinical resource for the department staff. Act in
the capacity of lead therapist for the assigned service area.
Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and
procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric,
Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups. Detailed
responsibilities: * SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational
structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train,
educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue
discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff
teamwork and growth initiatives\n * PATIENT CARE - Evaluate patient
and determine functional treatment goals; Assess patient's
functional impairments; delivers physical therapy plan of care to
include modalities, therapeutic exercise and manual skills; produce
18 units during each 8 hour shift * PATIENT CARE - Adapt therapy
treatment to meet individual patient needs; educate patients about
their care using easy to understand information * TRAINING -
Conduct training for medical, nursing and ancillary personnel in
therapy techniques and objectives; provide clinical direction
through mentoring, planning and implementing staff in-service
training * SCHEDULING - Coordinate staff and patient schedules;
meet patient census guidelines * BUDGET - Assist in the annual
budget planning process and regularly monitor expenditures *
QUALITY - Implement quality assurance and safety standards
consistent with TJC and OSHA regulations pertaining to
rehabilitation services * PERFORMANCE IMPROVE - Participate in
performance improvement activities and help identify performance
improvement criteria * COMMUNICATION - Utilize effective
communication and patient/customer relation skills in dealing with
patients, visitors, nursing staff, physicians and Hospitals
personnel * COMMUNICATION - Conduct staff meetings and one-on-one
meetings; discuss operational issues, training competencies,
provide feedback on employee satisfaction * ADMINISTRATION -
Perform various administrative functions such as monitoring
expenditures and preparing reports and correspondence; may
participate in a variety of research projects to develop service
plans; may propose changes to program policies and procedures *
PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies,
procedures and protocols * PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive
approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve
patient safety through questioning of current policies and
processes * PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct
environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient
at undue risk * PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual
patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a
timely manner * PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively
participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting
treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem
right" Qualifications Education: Essential: * Bachelor's Degree
Education specialization: Essential: * Related Discipline
Experience: Essential: 2 years directly related experience
Nonessential: Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or
Navajo Credentials: Essential: * CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or
Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days * NM PT or Temp OT License; Permanent
lic w/in 3 months Physical Conditions: Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to
100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force
frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move
objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of
those for Medium Work. Working conditions: Essential: * Med Haz:

travel to various work sites * May be required or is required to
rotate work shifts * Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire
